Message It actually decreases the safety factor by more than that because when it switches over to the low octane maps, it takes the value in the map and tries it. In this case, the point in the low octane map is actually higher than the value of the high octane map even after being reduced a number of degrees. Knock is detected, timing goes down, more knock detected, reverts to the low octane map and now timing goes back up, more knock then it goes down again (in the safety mode). Its all kinda wacky.
